Wadbister & Girlsta Shetland

The hamlets of Wadbister and Girlsta lie on the east side of the Shetland Mainland, a few miles north of Lerwick. The houses of Wadbister form a neat line with the voe on the north side and the hill of Stova to the south. Girlsta is more spread out and lies to the west of Wadbister Voe. To the north of the hamlet is the Loch of Girlsta, named after a Scandinavian girl named Geirhilda who drowned while ice skating around 870AD. She was buried on the Holm of Girlsta, a small island on the loch. It’s said to be the deepest freshwater loch on the islands, and Arctic Char can be found lurking in the depths. Shot with a GoPro Hero 3 Black at 1080/25 and Zenmuse H3-3D gimbal on a DJI Phantom 2 quadcopter. Rendered in 21:9 HD ultra widescreen. Music is „All Things Considered” by Lovira, from the album „Experiments” Welcome to The Shetland Flyer’s Vimeo profile!
