Abbaye de Fontevraud

Rue Saint-Jean de l'Habit, Abbaye de Fontevraud France /FROM THE ‘IDEAL CITY’/ TO ‘PROJECT FONTEVRAUD’ Abbaye Royale de Fontevraud The concept of the ‘ideal city’, thought up at the time of founding the Abbey by its founder, Robert d’Arbrissel, remains at the heart of ‘project Fontevraud’. This is a project inspired by the rich history of the site, while remaining resolutely focussed on the present and, above all, the future. It is a question of building a ‘city for living’ and not simply a ‘city for contemplation’, focussing of four major areas: art and culture, sustainable development, digital technology, and hospitality. ART AND CULTURE IN ACTION / NEW CHALLENGES: ECOLOGY AND DIGITAL TECHNOLOGY Clearly art and culture are at the centre of the project due to the important heritage of the site, but also through the organisation of exhibitions, concerts, debates and conferences. Sustainable development is a major challenge for the site, where we have already produced some highly innovative work. And digital technology, an essential element, is something that we think of as a collection of tools available for new uses. For example, it enables us to look at culture in a different light, for an increasingly varied range of visitors. HOSPITALITY / OUR GUIDING PRINCIPAL Finally, hospitality is a value that runs right through the project. It does not stop at Fontevraud L’Hôtel and Fontevraud Le Restaurant. The Fontevraud team, numbering some 100 people organised into different services, has for its primary vocation to welcome, look after, and surprise our guests. An ambitious, enthusiastic and fulfilling aim! Dear guests, welcome to Fontevraud Royal Abbey!
