Cider Ridge Golf Club

Located in Oxford Calhoun County Cider Ridge Golf Club features a 6,946-yard, 18-hole regulation golf course nestled in the foothills of the Appalachian Mountains. With dramatic topography on the back nine and bentgrass greens, Cider Ridge offers challenging layout and breathtaking views. Cider Ridge Golf Club is rich in history and provides a glimpse into Alabama's rural past. More than 100 years ago, the property was originally home to the Melon Apple Orchard. This orchard grew up to 11,000 bushels of apples annually on the property, and at its peak, produced more than 20,000 gallons of apple cider a year. Remnants from an old mill, which was touted as a water-powered grist, saw and gin mill, and a century old rock reservoir, which was used to produce running water, are still visible on the property today.Today, Cider Ridge Golf Club features a classic mountain-style golf course bordering the Talladega National Forest and Talladega Mountains. Designed by Atlanta-based Bill Bergin of Bergin Golf Designs, this par 72, 18-hole regulation golf course is situated at the base of the Alabama’s tallest mountain - Mt. Cheaha.Bergin managed to incorporate a wide range of the central Alabama terrain in the 6,976 yard layout. The front nine plays similar to a traditional parkland style course with tree-lined fairways,100-year-old majestic oaks and streams including the Choccolocco Creek. The back nine offers many rolling hills, elevation changes, mountain vistas, dense hardwood forests, and water features including the Little Hillabee Creek and natural waterfall which exists on the signature hole(#12) to this day.In fall of 2010, the golf course underwent a one million dollar restoration. As part of the restoration, improvements were made to the course drainage and sand bunkers, along with the repairing of concrete carts paths and construction of asphalt cart paths. New maintenance procedures were implemented which dramatically improved overall course conditions and greens resulting in rave reviews from local and regional golf publications in the spring of 2011. www.ciderridgegolf.com
