Kidwelly Castle

Castles from the Clouds: Kidwelly Castle - Cymru o'r Awyr: Castell Cydweli Castle Road, Kidwelly, United Kingdom Kidwelly is a mighty and imposing monument of Norman power. It is also a beautiful example of castle development, as the castle was dramatically altered on a number of occasions to conform to the latest thinking in military science. Roger, bishop of Salisbury, the justiciar of England, established Norman power in the area and the ringwork castle (shown below) that he built here was one of a series of strongholds designed by the Normans to secure the new conquests of south Wales by commanding the river passes here and at Laugharne, Llansteffan and Loughor. www.castlewales.com Filmed as part of a new series of videos that showcase Cadw's historic monuments from the air. Kidwelly Castle is so complete and well-preserved it's a match for any of the great castles of Wales.Just outside the gatehouse stands a memorial to Princess Gwenllian who died in battle in 1136 fighting the lord of the castle, Maurice de Londres, to save Deheubarth -- south-west Wales - from Norman invaders Wedi'u ffilmio fel rhan o gyfres newydd o fideos sy'n dangos henebion Cadw o'r awyr. Mae Castell Cydweli mor gyflawn ac wedi'i gadw cystal, fel y gellir ei gymharu ag unrhyw un o gestyll mwyaf Cymru. Y tu allan i'r porth, saif cofeb i'r Dywysoges Gwenllian, a fu farw mewn brwydr yn 1136 yn ymladd yn erbyn arglwydd y castell, Wedi'u ffilmio fel rhan o gyfres newydd o fideos sy'n dangos henebion Cadw o'r awyr.
