River Ranch Llano County

River Ranch in Llano County Llano County, Texas, United States Location: The Llano River Ranch is located 11.5 miles East of Llano, Texas. It’s 70 miles from Austin and 100 miles from San Antonio. Description: The River Ranch is roughly rectangular in shape. It’s approximately 1.75 miles long and ½ mile wide. The ranch has a good mix of open pasture, meadows, and dense cover. In some areas, there is a good amount of nutrient rich brush consisting of Mesquite, Bee brush, Tasajillo, and Prickly Pear. The remaining vegetation consists of a variety of desirable hardwoods such as Pecan, Cedar Elms, Live, Post and Red Oaks. There are several Live Oak trees (one in particular) that are among some of the largest I have ever seen. There are two prominent granite outcroppings and several other areas that exposed granite formations can be found. Ranch roads are good and allow access to the bulk of the property. The standard mix of Hill Country wildlife is present as well. Pennington Creek Cemetery is located on the ranch and as of the date of this writing, according to the current owner, no one has ever inquired about visiting it. Water: The most impressive attributes of the ranch is the water. Pennington Creek is a small spring-fed stream that runs for approximately 3200’ across the ranch. The opportunity for an impoundment on the creek to create a larger body of water would be excellent. The Llano River is on the Southern border and there is approximately 4000’ or .76 miles of frontage. Currently, the water flow is on the South side of the streambed (far side of the river from the ranch) but the Llano River is known to change courses often with flooding because of the large amount of sand. A large hole of water near the Southwest corner of the ranch is home to hundreds of bass, catfish, and carp. The ranch has five ponds, four are about a ½ acre in size or less and the other, near the cabin, is about 2 acres. The larger of the two could probably be re-worked to create a larger body of water.
