Panoramic view of beach with famous "Panagiotis", The shipwreck of Zakynthos, or "Panagiotis", is a shipwreck on the secluded coast of St. George of Zakynthos, and today is one of the most interesting sights of the island. The vessel was discovered on 5 October 1980 by a patrol boat of the Maritime Economic Police and was found to be carrying cigarette smuggling. The value of about 2,000 boxes of cigarettes was estimated at 30 million drachmas. The crew claimed that after three days the ship was stranded between Cape Kefalonia and Zakynthos due to bad weather conditions because of a mechanical breakdown on the Schinari cape. They stayed in a cave for two days and then found refuge in the village of Volimes.
