Devonshire, Bermuda.Ariel Sands Beach Club as we have known it since 1954, closed on January 1st, 2008. Sadness to see an era come to an end but excitement to see a much anticipated re-development project finally take off.Bermuda based Somers Management, which has been responsible for creating some of Bermuda’s finest commercial and residential buildings, was engaged to coordinate construction of the project. That company’s knowledge of Bermuda, its relationships on the Island and its strong construction and development background will be invaluable to the project’s success. The team then hired Bermuda firms Onsite Engineering Services and Quarterly Architects to create the plans for the project. Keith Hodgkins and Connor Burns from Onsite and Glyn Quarterly of Quarterly have done an extraordinary job of producing a wonderful program for the property that is imaginative with low environmental impact. The idea was to optimize the plan, not maximize it, to create a light footprint that would be economically successful. Other international consultants will be brought in to work on specific green energy and construction technology concepts so that the best thinking from around the world will be utilized in the final design of the project. Ariel Sands Hotel Cottage Colony will be completed in the winter/spring of 2017 in time to host the opening events of the 2017 America’s Cup Sailboat races, which will be held in Bermuda for the first time and will attract enormous international media attention.
