One of the most popular tourist spots in all of western China, the area was named after a legend that the river is so narrow at the bottom of the gorge that a tiger was able to leap across it. The mountain peaks on either side of the valley rise as much as 3000 meters above river level. Hiking trails and overnight guest houses are located high up on the north side of the river canyon and cater to thousands of tourists from around the world.
