Chiliadou beach may be the most famous of Evia especially for those who prefer free camping, although it is forbidden. The name Chiliadou comes from the homonymous chapel (Panagia tis Chiliadou) located near the beach. It is a Byzantine cross-shaped temple. According to one version, Our Lady of Chiliades was the thousandth church built by The Empress Theodora. The route is as follows: Chalkis - Nea Artaki - Vatonta - Katheni - Steni - Stropones - Lamari - Beach of Chiliadou.
