Kathenoi Euboea

Kathenoi Euboea. Kathenoi is a small mountain village at the foot of Mount Durfi. Administratively it belongs to the Municipality of Dyrfia - Messapia, in the Prefecture of Evia. It is 8 km from Steni and 23 km northeast of Chalkida. According to the 2011 Census it has 630 inhabitants. The settlement was set up by shepherds of the area. After the Revolution of 1821, older residents from the Mesopotamia Acropolis settled in the village. In 1836, when the administrative division of Euboea was established, the settlement belonged to the municipality of Lilantion. In the village there was a tower from the Venetian period, which was torn down to rebuild the school and the church. At sites of the settlement, archaeological finds of various historical periods have been found.
