Psaxna Euboea

Psaxna Euboea is today a town about 15 km north of Chalkis in Evia, with which it is connected by road via the coastal road Chalkida - N. Artakis - Psachna. Formerly the seat of a homonymous community, today it is the seat of the Municipality of Dyrfia - Messapia. In 1928 it had 2,933 inhabitants. The 2011 census numbered 5,827 residents and together with Makrymalli, Agios Ioannis Kalyvitis, Makrymallis Monastery and Panagia Gorgoepikoou Monastery constitute the Municipal Community of Psachon in the Municipality of Messapia. In Psachna there is a pre-war olive products industry and an electric plant. The population mainly deals with agriculture and livestock and the main products are horticultural and forestry. Also before 1930 in Psachna there was a post and telegraph office, a primary school, a semi-gymnasium, a forestry office, a police station, the church of the Transfiguration of the Savior, as well as cooperatives (agricultural, olive oil, forest co-owners, artisans and artisans). Today, just before entering Psachna, from Chalkida, where there is a small river bridge, on the right side of the road are the facilities of the Technological Educational Institute (TEI) of Central Greece where seven departments and two schools of the Foundation operate. The presence of this Foundation has contributed greatly to the development of the city.
