Lancellotti Castle-Lauro - PHANTOM 2 - H4-3D - Gopro Black 3+ Piazza Castello, Lauro, Province of Avellino, Italy Lancellotti Castle is a building of Langobardic-Norman origin, situated in Lauro town, a small city immerse in the vegetation of the homonym Valley. Today there’s nothing left of the original castle built in 976, because of many historic episodes occurred in which the castle was the main character on the scene.According to what was reported in some registers of Angevin Chancellor, in 1277 the custody of the “Castel Lauro” of that time went to Margherita de Toucy, cousin of Carlo I d’Angio. After this, the castle was passed on many people, first on the Principality of Salerno during the Langobardic period, followed by Saverino counts of Caserta during Norman period and in the end was in the hands of Pignatelli family. In 1799 there was a fire caused by French, built again later in 1872 and inaugurated on August 25th in the same year by Prince Don Filippo Massimo Lancelotti, and this is the reason behind castle name.Situated in a nineteenth-century style garden with a central and circular fountain, Castle Lancellotti is a sort of combination between different architectural types: gothic, neoclassic, baroque and renaissance melded in a trapezoidal plant structure, with squared towers and crenellated walls. The wood portal’s got an icon in which are shown Saint Sebastian and Saint Rocco, while at the right side of the portal it can be noticed a stable, with a seventeenth-century statue in the inside. On the other hand, a more little portal allows the entrance into a secret garden and in the opposite side there’s the family chapel. After a first visit outdoor, the indoor part of the castle deserve the same attention, especially seeing the Music Room, the Weapons Room, the Red Hall, the library and the pharmacy. www.avellinotravel.com Lauro - PHANTOM 2 - H4-3D - Gopro Black 3+
