Ram Fortress Serbia - Рамска тврђава 4K - Tvrđava Ram. Ram Fortress is situated on the banks of Danube, some 25 km northwest of Pozarevac, between Kostolac and Veliko Gradiste. New fortress was built in 1483, at order of sultan Bayazit II, which became important stronghold in Ottoman defense line against Hungary. This border fortification was a strategically relevant point until 1521, when the border of the Ottoman Empire moved more northwards. According to the Pozarevac Pease Treaty, the fortress was temporarily under Austrian control in the period from 1718 until 1739. The fortress has rectangular, almost polygonal foundation, with five massive towers. Ram is one of the oldest fortresses in Serbia that were equipped with defensive artillery, as evidenced by several specially made cannon loopholes. virtuelnimuzejdunava.rs
