Château de Montpoupon

Céré-la-Ronde, France. If you would like to see a Loire Valley château inhabited by the same family since the middle of the 19th century, you are more than welcome to discover the riches of Montpoupon; from the dining room to the King's quarters, from the stables to the Hermès Room, from the wine tasting room to the old kitchens; then last but not least, wander along the delightful Forest Walk. The stables are ever ready to receive their Touraine guests. Each stall is painted blue and yellow, the racing colours of the La Motte Saint Pierre family. In this major hunting focal point the horse has always reigned. Horse-drawn carriages are on show with their trappings. At the blacksmiths, the forge, the bellows, the anvil are for the children’s amusement. In all the châteaux in Touraine it was considered obligatory to keep a room aside for the King’s private use.Light and colour are the chief characteristics of this royal bedroom. The 16th century beams are painted in vivid colours on chestnut wood, in order to prevent damage caused by spiders ! The bedroom furniture is typical of the Loire Valley, richly decorated and includes several rare pieces such as the credenza, used to store religious objects.Tradition has it that king François 1st stayed in this room following a day’s hunting in the Loire Valley. From the fiveteenth century the Château de Montpoupon was the property of the Prie family. The furniture is partly seventeenth and partly eighteenth century, with a sixteenth century Italian travelling cabinet, and an exceptional Bohemian crystal chandelier.the kitchen is ready for use. www.chateau-loire-montpoupon.com
